I didn't plan to spend three years pouring resin in a Rewari workshop. The material chose me, not the other way around. This is the longer story of why a software engineer ended up with terracotta dust on his hands.
In December 2022 I was an Oracle Cloud engineer who'd never made anything with my hands. A friend's wedding gift list had a "resin keepsake" entry. The vendor cancelled the day before. I bought a 200g resin kit from Amazon, watched four YouTube videos, and poured a coaster set in our Gurgaon kitchen at 2am.
It was a terrible coaster. The pour line is still visible. I gave it anyway.
What surprised me was the second piece. And the tenth. And the hundredth. The material has an absurdly forgiving learning curve at the surface — anyone can pour a passable coaster — and an absurdly deep one underneath. Bubbles. Cure timing. Pigment dispersal. Mould release. The first piece took 20 minutes. By the hundredth I knew the material had me.
My in-laws have a small ground-floor space in Rewari, 90 minutes south. Quieter. Cheaper. Better light. Amit (my co-founder, my cousin) was already pouring small batches there for his own market stall. We folded the two operations together in March 2024. The brand became Neerami in August.
The material picked me. The town followed. Three years later I still pour every piece myself.
